Tying Up Loose Ends

As summer draws near to an end, Daniel and I are tying up the loose ends with our home. We've finally finished painting and installing our new chandelier (hired a crew to help us since we can't seem to paint within the lines...EVER.)

We've had our kitchen for a few weeks now, and what seemed like a never ending project, has turned out rather successful. It's all about the compromise! Who thought we'd have subway tile at the end of the day! (That was my compromise with Daniel to de-feminize our kitchen for letting us have white cabinets and countertops.) And honestly? I love it--absolutely love it.

The paint color we chose was supposed to be some shade of grey. In a quick hurry to pick one out, we never bothered to 'practice' on the walls. When I first came home to see how it turned out, I was in for a little bit of shock. (Daniel had also seen some of the paint go on the walls before heading out to work in the morning.) I gave Daniel a call mid-day, and our conversation went a little something to this effect:

Me: Daniel........our walls.....
Daniel: I KNOW. BABY BLUE?
Me: It looks like a shade of pastel PURPLE!!!! <insert gut wrenching, heart pains here>
Daniel: I know, I know. Let's just try to live with it for a while and see how it turns out. If you absolutely hate it, we'll repaint it again.

Le sigh.

Thankfully, after the paint had completely dried, it toned down a bit. I think we both agreed that it looks like more of  a 'periwinkle' color. In different angles and lights, though, it definitely looks grey. phew.

Love our new chandelier!!

Doesn't it look entirely different from different rooms and angles? The lighting changes it significantly. Anyway, we're happy with the way it turned out, and Mickey even got a new bed to match the paint!

Well, real estate has been insane with deals and listings closing right and left. I hardly get any days off, so this Labor Day weekend I intend on getting some much needed r&r time with the hubby. We're planning a much needed vacation to Thailand in November with some other friends! CANT WAIT.

Have a great week, folks. Au revoir!

YOOHOO!!! So the time has finally come to reveal the grand finale of our kitchen remodel. It's been a huge work in progress for the last month or so, and Daniel and I are more than thrilled to finally have a home to settle into for years and years to come! We still have a few final things left to do (ie: repaint all of our walls, hang our new chandelier, etc, etc), but otherwise, our house is nearly there! Up to date, thus far, we've:

-busted a wall open
-demolished the whole previous kitchen and remodeled
-shifted the oven and fridge and rerouted all the plumbing/electrical
-moved and installed all new recessed can lighting
-ripped up all the gross carpet and baseboards---replaced with porcelain tile that resembles hardwood, and new 4" baseboard

As you all recall, here were the before photos of our oak-y outdated home before the remodel:

Hey fan! The 80's called and want you back!

The waste of space dead wall.

The corner that Daniel felt 'closed in' our kitchen. This is what started the whole idea for a remodel and having a great room feel to our whole bottom floor.
Old fridge and hardwood floors

The window that would've cost $2000 to replace!!!
Old sink with no room for the hand soap dispenser. (One of the most annoying features of the old sink!) Oh--and not to mention that ugly, square tile. Good riddance!

Old 'coffee station' area
and we all remember----the old wall that blocked off our living spaces entirely:

And without further ado, our new kitchen and floors!

Oh hey open space, heyyyyyyy.
so. in. love.

New coffee corner with our grind and brew and Nespresso machine!
Amazing new farm sink with plenty of room for anything I want on top! (Oh, and notice the new window? $1900 cheaper than replacing the small bay window.) Also---our subway tile backsplash!
I'm obsessed with our new mirrored oven.
New dishwasher camouflaged with a matching cabinet door. One less thing to have to clean with stainless steel cleaner? SCORE.
An up close of the 'veins' in the countertops.
Plates n' things.
The new 'hardwood' (porcelain tile) floors
The floors look so real, I can't stand it. Love it.

So, that's that, friends. A month later, and day to day compounded stress, we finally have our dream kitchen! We still have to fix all the walls, but we can finally enjoy our home again.

Have a great weekend folks!
